SAGEN supports its partners with implementing gender-responsive measures, including capacity building for women, fostering equitable work conditions to promote female leadership and decision-making roles. These efforts aim to cultivate an energy industry enriched by women and contribute to the creation of a prosperous, inclusive, and dynamic energy sector.
Project Highlights
Advancing and coordinating a gender action group dedicated to women in leadership roles.
Executing organisational gender-responsive development initiatives for the public institutions in the energy sector.
Providing support for the involvement of management personnel identifying as women in additional training programmes, coaching sessions, and networking opportunities.
Creating working groups and forums for women in decision-making positions to drive and implement measures related to identified strategies.
Project Activities
The DEE in partnership with SAGEN has launched the C-Suite Women in Energy Programme to strengthen South Africa’s leadership pipeline by supporting senior women professionals to step into executive decision-making roles.
SAGEN conducted a study on advancing women entrepreneurs in South Africa’s renewable energy value chain, highlighting opportunities to strengthen the participation of women-led SMMEs.
A benchmarking assessment is underway to assess organisational systems, policies, and practices through a gender lens and to identify gaps and opportunities to enhance inclusivity.
In collaboration with municipalities, SAGEN is advancing initiatives to integrate gender considerations into municipal energy planning for more inclusive decision-making.
