Technical Advisor for Sustainable Energy (seconded to SALGA)
Lerato joined SAGEN as the Technical Advisor seconded to the South African Local Government Association (SALGA). She holds a Master of Arts in Public Management and Governance, as well as a BCom in Project Management. Prior to joining SAGEN, Lerato served as the Municipal Just Energy Transition (JET) Coordinator for the USAID-funded Southern Africa Energy Program (SAEP).
Lerato’s professional experience has provided her with extensive exposure to South Africa’s energy sector, where she has engaged with diverse stakeholders, fostered partnerships for collective action, and delivered tangible outcomes through multidisciplinary, results-driven programmes. As Technical Advisor to SALGA, Lerato provides support to SALGA and municipalities across a broad range of energy-related topics, helping them navigate complex challenges and identify practical solutions.
In her continued role, Lerato remains instrumental in advancing the role of municipalities within the ongoing electricity sector reforms and energy transition. She continues to support efforts to strengthen human and institutional capacity within municipalities, while promoting sustainable energy solutions that enhance the resilience, efficiency, and effectiveness of municipal energy systems.
