Lerato Libate

Technical Advisor for Embedded Generation (seconded to SALGA)

Lerato joined SAGEN as the Technical Advisor seconded to the South African Local Government Association (SALGA). She holds a Master of Arts in Public Management and Governance. Prior to joining SAGEN, Lerato served as the Municipal Just Energy Transition (JET) Coordinator for the USAID-funded Southern Africa Energy Program (SAEP). Lerato’s work experience has exposed her to working with multiple stakeholders in South Africa’s energy sector, partnering with diverse partners for collective action, and actualizing outputs on multidisciplinary and result-based programs. As the Technical Advisor to SALGA, Lerato is responsible for supporting SALGA and municipalities with technical advice on a broad range of energy-related topics and navigating the challenges thereof. In her capacity, Lerato will play an instrumental role by making contributions to the regulatory framework around the South African Electricity Distribution Industry (EDI). Lerato is committed to leading efforts that are geared towards increasing human and institutional capacity and the development of sustainable energy solutions within municipalities.
