Senior Technical Advisor for Power Systems and Flexibilisation
Chenai is a registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and a Senior Technical Advisor for Power Systems and Flexibilisation within the South African-German Energy Programme (SAGEN).
In her current role, she supports key energy sector institutions in strengthening power system planning and operation to enable the integration of renewable energy and increased flexibility in the South African power system. Her work focuses on power system planning and operation, renewable energy grid integration, energy storage, flexibility solutions, electricity markets, grid codes, network innovation, and the evolving roles of transmission and distribution system operators.
Chenai holds a BEng (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pretoria. She has experience in power system studies, electricity distribution, network planning, power quality, grid integration, and energy sector advisory.
Prior to her current role, Chenai supported South African municipalities and electricity distribution stakeholders through SAGEN-CET (Capacities for the Energy Transition) as an Advisor for EDI Reform and Capacity Building. Her experience spans the public and private sectors in South Africa and internationally, combining technical power systems expertise with energy sector advisory and capacity development.
