Zanele Hakamela

Advisor for Technology Innovation and Gender Mainstreaming in Energy

Zanele is a Technical Advisor at SAGEN, specialising in project implementation across technology innovation, gender mainstreaming, and capacity building. With a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Monitoring and Modelling, she brings 10 years of experience in the climate change and energy sector, spanning public and private sector initiatives. 

Her experience includes the development and implementation of sustainable energy policies and programmes, as well as research and technical work across renewable energy, energy efficiency, building energy management, climate change, gender mainstreaming, and capacity development. 

In her current role, Zanele supports initiatives that promote a more inclusive and sustainable energy transition, working with government institutions, development partners, municipalities, and other sector stakeholders. She has contributed to research, stakeholder engagement, knowledge exchange, and the integration of gender considerations into energy policies, programmes, and institutional processes. 

Her work is underpinned by a strong commitment to advancing gender equality, strengthening institutional capacity, and supporting the transition towards clean, sustainable, and inclusive energy systems.
