Meet the Women behind SAGEN

Women’s Month in South Africa, celebrated every August, honours the strength, resilience, and contributions of women to the country’s history and development. It commemorates the 1956 march of over 20,000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the apartheid pass laws – a powerful symbol of unity and resistance. Today, Women’s Month is a time to reflect on progress made in gender equality, acknowledge the ongoing challenges women face, and celebrate their achievements across all sectors of society. It also serves as a call to action to continue advancing women’s rights and creating inclusive, empowering spaces for all.

Women remain underrepresented in the global energy sector, holding less than one-third of jobs in renewables. Yet, as a relatively new and fast-growing field, renewable energy offers unique opportunities to reshape the workforce and promote inclusive participation.

At SAGEN, we’re proud to be part of this shift: 76% of our core team are women – leading the way as technical experts, project managers, communicators, and finance and admin specialists.

This Women’s Month, we celebrate the diverse and brilliant women powering our work toward a Just Energy Transition in South Africa. 💡🌍
