Strengthening the Voices of Women Leaders Beyond the Boardroom

Leadership in today’s energy sector extends beyond the boardroom. It also requires the ability to engage publicly, shape conversations and communicate with clarity and confidence.

Last week, the Mentors of the C-Suite Women in Energy Empowerment Programme participated in a media training session facilitated by media strategist Oupa Setale, with insights from radio broadcaster and journalist Nonn Botha. The session focused on navigating interviews, panel discussions and public engagements with strategic presence and authenticity.

As South Africa’s energy transition continues to evolve, strengthening women’s leadership visibility and influence remains critical. Media training is one of the practical ways the C-Suite Women Development Programme supports women leaders to amplify their voices and lead confidently in public spaces. For mentors, media training strengthens another essential dimension of leadership: the ability to lead conversations publicly, confidently and authentically.

The training forms part of the South African-German Energy Programme (SAGEN) implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Department of Electricity and Energy (DEE). Through this partnership, targeted support continues to be provided to advance gender mainstreaming in the energy sector, aligned with the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality (WEGE) strategy.

An inclusive energy transition requires visible, influential and empowered leadership.
